Family Portrait
A monochrome photograph of my cousin in a birch wood in winter taken in the 1950s was scanned into Paint Shop Pro as the basis for this image. The gamma was adjusted for greater contrast and deeper blacks, and slight greenish tinges were added to parts of the background, just enough to lift it from the flat, neutral grey of the scan and thus to help the overall cohesion of the image. Then the different key areas of the model were carefully selected and spot colour applied to create the final image.
