Arachnophobia
A revelatory self-portrait. The basis is two scanned 35mm monochrome negatives from some 25 years ago - one a self-portrait (now sadly with grey/white hair and more extra pounds than I care to recollect) and a Tegenaria spider. These were composited in Paint Shop Pro and various plugin and filter effects applied. Although an amateur entomologist of long-standing, illogically I do share the common and irrational fear of spiders - hence the subject of the picture and the reference to George Orwell's room in the novel "1984" where dissident subjects of the oppressive state are exposed to their worst nightmare.
