Wuthering Heights
I wanted to create here some feeling of gloom and foreboding of the hostile high moors terrain, capturing some spirit of the eponymous novel. It also has echoes of a scary incident many years ago when I and a small group of companions became stranded on a mountain top in the English Lake District when fog suddenly descended and reduced visibility to only a few yards. Our plight was made worse by the eventual discovery that, because of magnetic rock, our compass bearings were useless and we were totally lost. Luckily as we were nearing exhaustion, we heard a shepherd somewhere nearby and shouted to attract his attention. Thankfully he was able to guide us down to safety and we got back to civilisation - albeit the wrong village - just in time to prevent a call-out of the emergency services by our anticipated hosts for the night.
