Heat Haze
In this image I wanted to capture the sense of a heat haze in a late, sultry afternoon in high summer. At the same time, I wanted to create a little of the feel of an old painting in the image. The sky was deliberately kept relatively featureless and large to enhance the sense of oppressive heat bearing down on the land below. The two objectives were further enhanced by reducing the colour palette almost to the values of a muted tritone print - almost as if the landscape itself was exhausted by the heat and the "painting" had faded a little over the years.
